With this volume of the Diaspora Series, Hakob Mndzuri’s drama Nazar is published, appearing for the first time as a separate book. It was previously published only once, in 1929, in the Boston-based journal Hairenik.

The substance of Mndzuri’s literature is his native village—its nature, its plain yet close-knit people, bound to their traditions, their land, and their water. Nazar is the great writer’s only dramatic work, in which, as he himself put it, “the village lives within me”—imbued with the subtle nuances of Mndzuri’s village world, yet ending in tragedy.
